We at Roll Me Up have made the commitment to serve the best tasting ice cream and hand made rolled ice cream Toronto has ever tasted! We also offer delicious milkshakes. This sweet drink is an iconic dessert that has become a staple for homes and restaurants. In this post we’ll discuss the history of this famous dessert.
Did you know that milkshakes were originally made with alcohol? In the late 1800s milkshakes were known to be an eggnog like drink mixed with whiskey. This changes in the later years as ingredients such as syrup, and other sweeter non alcoholic mixtures were used. The evolution of the milkshake to its current texture is largely in part due to the invention f the electric blender. This made milkshakes easier to be made and gave it the consistent texture that we all know and love.
During this time, milkshakes had picked up in popularity and fast food restaurants, diners and soda fountains were serving milkshakes with various old and new flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, Oreos and more.
Today they are a wide variety of flavors, and sorts of milkshakes. Such as frappes, frosty, flurries which all have roots to the classic milkshake!
The first official account of ice cream in the New World comes from a letter written in 1744 by a guest of Maryland Governor William Bladen. The first advertisement for ice cream in this country appeared in the New York Gazette on May 12, 1777, when confectioner Philip Lenzi announced that ice cream was available “almost every day.”
